TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin)
In use now for over 10 years, TPO roofs are gaining popularity for both new construction and as the preferred replacement roof. TPO is one of the fastest growing applications being used in commercial roofing systems. TPO roofing has many advantages including overall performance and installation. With a new focus on energy-efficient roofing, TPO roofing systems offer resistance to ultraviolet rays, ozone and chemical exposure in significant amounts.
BUILT-UP ROOFING (BUR)
In use for more then 170 years, this type of roofing system has a waterproof base sheet which is first applied to the cleaned and prepped roof deck. Next multiple layers of roof “felts” are bonded together with an adhering agent, typically asphalt or coal tar. A layer of protective surfacing is then applied in the final step. With this type of application, the longevity of the roof increases as more intermediary layers are applied.
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer)
In use for about 50 years, EPDM roofing systems have been successfully employed as a waterproof roof covering.
EPDM roofing systems offer ease of installation, extended suability and design versatility.
PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)
In use for about 40 years, PVC roofing systems currently account for about 10% of roof coverings in America.
They provide extreme durability and high resistance to punctures, dirt and debris. This is a very flexible material which can be affixed onto nearly any shape of roof and it is basically maintenance-free. PVC roofing systems are also fire-resistant due to their chemical make-up, and they are energy-efficient, too.
SBS-MODIFIED (Styrene Butadiene Styrene)
In climates with greater extremes in both summer and winter temperatures, SBS-modified roofing systems are highly favored. When SBS is added to a basic roofing sheet, it creates a product with greater flexibility and pliability.
SBS roofing systems and materials such as these give the product greater elasticity which in turn, provides for a faster “return to normal” after experiencing temperature extremes.
TAPERED INSULATION SYSTEMS
Designed to provide the slope that is inherently lacking on flat roofs, tapered insulation systems not only maintain the integrity of the roof, but they also support proper drainage so that the life of the roofing system can be extended.
Roofing professionals, structural designers and architects are gaining a better understanding of how improper drainage can negatively impact both new and existing roofing. As a result, tapered insulation systems have received wide recognition for their utilization.
